Oberlin’s Weird Architecture

I recently took a trip up north and passed through Oberlin, Ohio, home of Oberlin College. Right downtown they have the weirdest buidling, the Oberlin College Hall Auditorium. It was designed and built around 1950, and looks it. Here’s a picture:

The design is so awful and it makes me think of so many other things besides a building: the exhaust ports of some sort of sci-fi space ship, a high-intensity cold war radar waveguide, a Bose Wave radio, among others. However, I think the “photoshop” job below sums it up nicely.

It just screams “Eisenhower Era Rest Stop”, doesn’t it?
