Scrabble Game 2.29.08

For those of you not in the know, I like to play Scrabble. For an average pedestrian player with a pedestrian vocabulary, I play a mean game, frequently scoring over 500 points and rarely missing an opportunity for a Bingo.

I have decided to start logging my Scrabble games. Here is the most recent game, played February 29th, 2008 against Gac.

Points This Game

Inanis: 650  Gac: 456

Games Won

Inanis: 2  Gac: 5

Every turn was a Bingo, except the last, because I only had two tiles. I was ruthless on this game, going against my normal strategies, and spreading out as far and as fast as I could, trying to get out to the triple word blocks. I managed to snag 6 of the 8, Gac getting one, and one left unused. My first and seventh turns scored 106 and 108 points, respectively. The best played word of the game was fez, on triple word, for 45 points… just for that one word. I even managed to squeeze another word in on that ‘z’ several turns later.

For those of you even less in the know, Gac is my SO (name hidden for the same reason mine is, keep off our identities you thieves!) and we frequently play Scrabble games. I had been on a 7-or-so game winning streak, but Gac recently had me for a 3 game run. This was my first win after that run and I must say it feels good to win again.

Hello, Michael

Hello, KITT.

I watched the 2 hour Knight Rider special tonight, and I have to say that I am looking forward to the series, if they decide to show one. The show isn’t Battelstar Galactica, but it is better than alot of other crap on TV.

Aside from the blatant Ford advertising (why in the hell didn’t they use a Dodge Charger, its a nicer looking car) and the obvious plot holes (eh, prime time sci-fi, what can you expect), it was a good show.

The Hoff was in fine form, at least not drunk. I wish his cameo said something about the car and or their past, but eh, didn’t happen.

Let the returns begin

I have started the RMA process for the motherboard in The-Beast. Hopefully, Gigabyte won’t take their sweet time getting the board back to me. In the interim, good old Lappy Z81D is my primary computer.

Lappy does a good job, so I should be okay until the new board comes in.

In other news, I cleaned out my computer room today, got rid of an old case, a slew of old boxes and a few old optical drives. I also threw a couple of dead UPS units out into the hall until the recycling center opens again, then I can get them recycled.

I have an opportunity to purchase a fully operational Kaypro I with CP/M and the original OS boot discs, keyboard, cables and everything. We shall see how that goes… if it even goes at all.

I love Ubuntu

The software is stellar. It is my favorite web server platform, period. It’s fast. It’s reliable. It blows all other Linux distros out of the water for personal style web serving and desktop Linux use. Well, in my opinion.

The LAMP server has almost everything you need ready to go from the start. Getting a Wiki or WordPress blog running out of the box is a piece of cake. No, easier than cake. It’s like breathing. Yes. Serving pages with Ubuntu is like breathing.

The community support is excellent. If I have a problem with Ubuntu, all I have to do is type, even vaguely, a 5 word description of my problem or even just the task I want to accomplish, and someone out there has had the same problem and had it fixed by a Linux or Ubuntu guru.

I Ubuntu.
