pixlr – Uh, why haven’t I seen this before?

Stumbled across this really cool online *free* photo editor that doesn’t require applicaiton installation.

It’s called pixlr. I played around with it, it’s kinda neat. It’s essentially Photoshop, but online, accessible anywhere, and free. It’s obviously not as advanced as Photoshop, but the online always available anywhere aspect is appealing, especially if you are stuck somewhere and need the ability to edit a photo or something, that’s cool.

It has all the features a modern “real” image editing application needs, like layers, image adjustments like brightness and a nice set of filters, like blur, sharpen, pixelate and others.

I find the gradient tool to be particularly neat in it’s implementation. Just drag a line and it draws the gradient between the lines -and- with the directionality of the line.

There are lots of other cool things going on with it and I have to say it’s a really decent little tool. I don’t think it will replace my venerable PaintShopPro 8.10, but again, it could come in handy. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on over the next few months to see how well the developers refine it.
