Inanis Glass 1.3.5 in testing…

I am testing Inanis Glass 1.3.5 on the site here. Everything seems to be in order. The only thing that I can see that was sacrificed was compatibility with IE6, but we are at IE8 now people – switch browsers or get a new computer or something already. New computers are so insanely cheap now…

In any case, the biggest addition you will notice is the resize option in the upper right corner. Go ahead, click on it. I dare ya.

Other minor bugs fixed, features added. Check out the download page to see all the details. If I don’t see any problems over the next couple of days, then up for download it will go.

If you notice a problem, drop me a note in the comments.

EDIT: I just noticed a problem already – the page resizer doesn’t stick. I was thinking earlier that I should incorporate that into the page cookie, but I forgot. Yeah, I’ll get to that tomorrow.

EDIT 2: found that under certain circumstances, that the “windows” will roll over top of the sidebar. That’s definitely not pretty. I should probably hack the code so that changing the column width in one place changes the three different containers it should change.

EDIT 3: Probably should add a couple of small changes to the window graphics to make it slightly more authentic.

  1. It looks very nice, but I still like the old non-resizable version. Are there any bugfixes in this one that would mean it would be wise to use it, or is the original one still safe to keep using?

  2. I have been running this as my theme of choice for quite a long time now. Just curious, think I could help test out your beta version? I have beta tested for years now. I love this theme and what you are doing is awesome. Let me know!

  3. @Rob – Nothing broken or wrong with the old version and it is still safe to use. There were just some specific changes that many people were clamoring about, so I put them in. There were a couple of minor bug fixes and style changes, but it’s mostly the same. The biggest visual thing you might notice is the “window” frames look just a tad different, due to having to recode them to allow for dynamic resizing. I was thinking last night that I could probably make a couple of changes and make it look more like the old style, but as it is, the difference is so slight that most people probably won’t notice.

  4. @ Matthew – I can certainly consider it, however, the changes are so small and the new version so inherently stable (as it’s just re-hacked from the previous version) that I don’t think it’s necessary.

  5. Hello Inanis,
I added to your theme several social bookmarks plugins but expecially for Facebook they don’t work.
All plugins show the post text but not pictures included in the post; the pictures shown are the sidebar icons. Is this a theme bug or anything else?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • Interesting. Can you send me some links to these plugins so I can test them and see what’s up? Check out the “Contact Me” page underneath “About Me” if you would rather talk through email.

  6. I’m wondering if you changed something on the site here. The resize link no longer resizes anything for me. I use a Mac and Safari. It worked before just fine.

  7. Cool scrollbars and bottom navigation. I haven’t tried this one, but if I did I think I’d tweak the css a bit and change the “kinda tired” background image. Is that button next to Alberts head supposed to do something?

    • Inanis = not a graphic designer. I am a computer technician by hobby, and an “IT solutions wrangler” by trade. I play with code and web design because I like to, not because I think I can create some sort of awesome solution for everyone. I would love to create some beautiful background image that makes everyone go “oooh!”, but alas – lack of skill and lack of $15billion Adobe software gets you this result. I know the image is old, but it suits the color scheme selected.

Yes, that button on all the browsers I have tested it on resizes the center column between 660px, 75% and 100% width. What browser are you using it on that doesn’t work so I can test it out?

  8. To all the resizer comments… I’m not having problems with it and I haven’t changed anything relating to the resizer. I am not sure what the problem is there. I don’t have a modern Mac to test it on, so I can’t confirm that problem, but it’s working for me in IE8, FF3.5Win, FF3.5Linux, Opera 10 and Chrome 3.

UPDATE: The resizer on a machine where it was working fine before is now not working. Definitely need to look into that with a magnifying glass.

  9. I think I have fixed the resizer, and I have popped the button into a new location ( on the banner area ) along with a nicer looking button. Pretty, no?

  10. I just found your theme yesterday and I adore it! Thanks so much! I can’t wait to get my hands on the updated version! Thanks so much for taking the time and sharing this!
