I don’t know how I missed this. This is pretty cool and handy from a tech’s point of view, and from a geek point of view too. Apparently, this software called Connectify uses some new network magic in Windows 7 to create wifi hotspots out of your wireless adapter.I came across this yesterday when I was looking up info on the new Android 2.2 OS update for my Moto Droid that will allow a MiFi style thing to happen on the Droid.
Now I can do it with my phone and my laptop. Neat-o.
This would make a really neat way to crutch a customer whose internet is down, by connecting to a local hotspot, then rebroadcasting – I guess. Its kinda cool, but I’m at a loss to find a functional use for it yet. I guess the idea is that when you need an impromptu hotspot- here you go. From a tech’s perspective: I’ll just keep a wifi router in stock.
What do you think about this? Anyone used it before?
