It’s hard to work on this thing after work.

I am still alive and I want to complete the theme, but I have no energy after work the past few weeks – that’s kinda how my job goes. I get a few weeks of quiet and I have energy to work on the theme, and then I have a few weeks of INSANE and I barely have enough energy to feed myself and crawl into bed.

Don’t worry, I am committed to getting all your suggestions into the theme, get all the bugs fix, get out of beta and release on time.

Oh, and the cake is not a lie – it’s just so far afield it’s difficult to see right now.

Just a quick update: heard a great 20s music concert here in Davenport IA tonight. Not usually my kind of music, but the band played exceptionally. It was super fun. Videos to come later…

Yes, I went there. Yes, I took pictures. Yes, I am a Trek fan. Even cooler than being there – running into other fans from New York passing through, making the same impromptu unlikely pilgrimage.

Otherwise, I’m just having fun in Davenport, Iowa. Old music, easier times. Away from work. *breathe*

Yeah, sometimes I bake, wanna fide abboud id? These things grow in my yard. The blackberries, that is. I collect around almost a quart a day. They keep on coming. I can’t stop them.

To the person who used my contact form with the name “roflcoptor”:

I am not entirely certain the purpose of your message. You sent me a message giving me the WHOIS information for the Inanis.net domain (that anyone can find), then taunted me by giving me a “Tor” IP address like you were trying to hide where you were (which was 66.230.230.230 based in California – likely fake because of the repeating numbers). You gave your email address as a Mailinator address (M8R-lc06bv@mailinator.com) so you presumably couldn’t be tracked.

By the way: My contact script gave me a different IP from the one you said was your Tor IP. This IP, which I am going to presume is either your real IP (or your Tor address rolled while you were typing your message ) which is 94.23.44.129, which originates in France.

In any case, I still don’t know the purpose of your message. You wanted to show me information I already know? You were trying to extort something from me using information unsuitable for the purpose? You were trying to get my real email address for spamming purposes? Maybe I’m being a bit presumptuous, but I think I’m safe.

Not sure what you were going for, but at the very least, I found your reference to ROFLCoptor amusing.

I’m still here folks, but since wrapping up major design on Inanis Seven, I’m taking a break. I’ve gotten all the comments, emails and beta requests. I’ll get back to them in a day or two, don’t worry.

I live in a nice world. I try to be a nice guy. I don’t disable hotlinking by default.

That was, until some website using an East Timor top-level domain was hot linking to the ENTIRE LOCAL COPY of Inanis Glass on my server.

Apache mod_rewrite fixed that. They are now permanently and forever rickrolled. Have a nice day!

(I just hope the rule doesn’t rickroll my own site… )

EDIT: Two Notes – 1) I know the Gadgets Sidebar is wonky during page resizes smaller than the width of the main column. 2) when I say “put your email address in the comments form”, I mean in the email address field. You don’t have to put it in the main comment body – everyone can see it there, including spambots.

I’ll limit the number of people who get a beta copy,  but I’m not sure what that limit will be – I’ll just set it arbitrarily when I feel there are enough copies in circulation.

When you submit your comment, give me a quick, two line synopsis of why you would like to beta test the theme and why you feel you would be a good candidate. I would like to limit the beta to those with some WordPress or web design experience so they can help me root out obscure bugs, but everyday bloggers are welcome to try it out too. If you just want to see the features and play with it a bit, check out the sandbox instead.

The theme is compatible with WordPress 2.8 and up, but works best on 2.9 variants. I have tested it to be compatible with WordPress 3.0, but it doesn’t support any new 3.0 specific features. Those will come in a later release after the feature set is locked down and bugs are squashed.

The theme is NOT IE6 compatible. It won’t be. I will never make it to be. Don’t ask for me to make it so, because I won’t dignify you with a reply.

If you are chosen to test out the theme, be warned – I (inanis) CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF THE BETA THEME PULVERIZES YOUR POSTS, PUMMELS YOUR PAGES, OR OTHERWISE KILLS YOUR BLOG, YOUR FIRST BORN CHILD OR YOUR LAWN. IT’S BETA. YOU ASSUME ALL RISK BY INSTALLING BETA CODE ON YOUR WORDPRESS WEBLOG.

Phew, enough nastiness. In all reasonable reality, you shouldn’t have any blog killing, world ending problems. I’ve been running older versions of it on Inanis.net for months without issue, and I easily get 200 hits a day. (I remember when 10 hits a day was alot…)

I saw this while out and about for lunch today:

Here: let us translate these apostrophied words into their full and obvious meanings to see if the resultant sentence is coherent.

An alternative translation might be the following fragment:

“The Truck of “are for Girls” of the Silly Boy …”

Does that make sense? Yeah, I didn’t think so either.

I won’t claim to always get things right when spelling or speaking, but in the context of vehicle lettering – there’s no reason not to get it right. What I am most curious about is this: did the customer get it wrong and the vendor, acting in “the customer is always right” mode did not have the guts to correct the customer, or did the customer get it right and the vendor got it wrong? Alternative theory: both parties got it wrong and absolutely no one caught the problem until it was too late.
