You might think about looking at something like lightbox or bumpbox for your images. Being taken away from the main page is pretty old-school and antiquated.
Lightbox + something odd about my wordpress/server installation = lightbox doesn’t work, regardless of theme installed. Lightbox can’t hook the image/a tags correctly for some reason.
I haven’t devoted the time to making it work, since it really doesn’t bother me that much.
