The Macintosh SE was a marked improvement on the Macintosh Plus design and was released by Apple around the same time as the Macintosh II. It had a similar case to the original Mac, but it's look was updated, so it was slightly different in color and style.

Museum Pieces

Piece 1

  • Model Number: M5011
  • Serial Number: F1029AW9B02
  • Date Acquired: Summer, 2003
  • Functional Condition: Partially Functional: FDD only works with 400/800k discs. See Remarks.
  • Physical Condition: Fair. Missing original ADB cable. Hard Drive noisy and takes several up/down cycles to get working after machine has been dormant. 4MB RAM.
  • Add-Ons: None
  • Remarks: Acquired from a local high school. This piece is a standard Macintosh SE crossed with a Mac SE SD. Everything inside and outside the computer matches a Mac SE SD, but the motherboard is that of a Mac SE standard. The basic outcome of this is that the machine will not read or format 1.44MB floppy discs, because the ROM does not support it. One of several things has happened to this machine: the original motherboard failed and was replaced with a standard board instead, the ROM chips failed and were replaced with standard ROM chips, or they pulled the working logic board with 1MB out, and put an older one in that already had 4MB on it just because it had more RAM.
