The Equipment Catalog Numbering System [ECNS] is a system for the cataloging and identification of the specific technological designs or implementations of a system that is a member of a Collection Of Systems. Every specific system unit on all vessels, installations and vehicles has a unique Equipment Catalog Number, or ECN. This includes equipment like Engine Designs, computer configurations, weapons, etc.

The ECNS, along with several other catalogs, is a sub-catalog of the larger Master Catalog Numbering System [MCNS].

Numbering Conventions

Each ECN consists of three parts, which are defined in the following manner:

DDDD-
Design Prefix

TT[T]-
Classification

MMM[M]-
Model Suffix

S[S]-
Subversion

  • Design Prefix: A four letter prefix, indicating the design group or Space Police division that designed the item.
  • Classification: A two or three letter base, indicating the type or class of the design.
  • Model Suffix: A three to four number suffix, indicating the specific model being referenced. The Model Suffix may contain an optional Model Subversion, a one to two letter suffix, indicating a subversion or design variant.
