Part Catalog Numbering System
From SPID
The Part Catalog Numbering System [PCNS] is a master list of Part Catalog Numbers [PCN] that represent every minor part used in the construction of any Space Police Collection Of Systems. The PCNS can be used to look up replacement parts and matter replication specifications for any Collection Of Systems adhering to the PCNS.
Some specialized systems with parts peculiar to said systems do not adhere to the PCNS, and may have their own numbering systems. This is usually noted in the maintenance log or specifications record of said systems.
The PCNS, along with several other catalogs, is a sub-catalog of the larger Master Catalog Numbering System [MCNS].
Numbering Conventions
Each PCN consists of two or three parts, which are defined in the following manner:
Subversion
Part Number
Serial Number
- Subversion: a two digit hexadecimal code representing a minor revision or bugfix to a pre-existing part. This prefix only applies in special circumstances, and is not always present.
- Part Number: an eight digit hexadecimal code representing the specific part class
- Serial Number: a sixteen digit hexadecimal code representing an individual part, used for part tracking.
Part Tracking
Each individual part is tracked throughout its useful life by its serial number. Any Collection Of Systems in which it is installed gets tagged in that parent system's Parts Complement List, with this serial number and a complete record of maintenance to said part. This allows for very precise quality control, parts lot tracking, maintenance tracking, and for identification purposes in the event of the loss of the parent system, among other things.
